Marina is located about 10 miles north of Monterey. It is currently a “bedroom community” with no real central downtown area.This is changing though!

Marina is often foggier and windier than the rest of the Peninsula. But it is “hang glider” heaven as they usually launch from the beach area.

Beach area there is a long, wide, sandy beach area, wild, windy and beautiful. Great for long walks, kite flying, watching the birds.

Schools – Marina is part of the Monterey School District and has just gotten it’s own High School

Housing – Rentals prices are slightly less expensive than the rest of the Peninsula. Prices of homes are considerably less expensive. There are several neighborhoods with new houses. And a very large number of new housing communities are planned in the Marina section of Fort Ord.

Shopping - There are a few strip shopping centers,lots of fast food restaurants, a Saveon grocery store and a Farmer’s market on Sundays. There are also several great Asian markets. New shopping is now available on the Fort Ord portion of Marina.
