Pro PackingTips
- Create a master list of things to do - otherwise you are likely to forget something important.
- Toss what you no longer need. Give it to a thrift shop, have a yard sale.
- You might feel like throwing it all out! But first ask this question how often have you used this item? Would you miss it if it was gone?
- Pack similar items in the same box. . Pack toys with other toys, kitchen pots, pans etc. with like items.
- Are you going to move any items yourself? If it's a family picture, something valuable that breaks , or something you need while you move, then keep it with you.
- Use the proper box for the item. If you pack things too loosely they are more likely to break.
- If the box weight is over 50 pounds it can be hard to move.
- If you pack boxes too full, they are more likely to split and the contents spill.
- Wrap items that are fragile separately and pad the sides and the bottoms of the boxes.
- Write the contents on every side of the box.. Once they are stacked and you would have to move boxes out of the way to determine what's inside.
- Use colored labels ( and code them) to show what room each box should go in. To help the movers make a floor plan and show what items go where..
- Place your moving documents in a folder, include contact numbers, name of drive , and number of van. . Also keep your address book close by.
- Back up! Or you could lose computer files when you move.
- Check all boxes and all furniture for damage as soon as it arrives.
- Be aware , most movers will not move plants.
