The actual village of Carmel, know as "Carmel by the Sea is one square mile. It is a quaint, picturesque town, with no addresses and no mail delivery to most of the town. Going to the Post Office in Carmel to pick up your mail is a social occasion.
Carmel is a very pedestrian friendly town. The downtown is very colorful and unique with lots of flowers and quaint buildings & shops.
Since there are no street numbers within the city limit, most people give their homes names. And to find your way around you need to learn where north, south, east & west are.

The beautiful white sands of Carmel are popular with tourists and locals alike. Locals often walk to the beach at sunset with a glass of wine in hand to watch the show.
Carmel is know for its cultural with many performing arts such as the Forest Theater. The Sunset Cultural Center has been remodeled recently and is the venue for the Carmel Bach Festival, and many other concerts and events.
When you see street numbers you usually know you are now outside the city limits.
